BREEDS

Horses/ponies must be registered with their relevant breed society to compete in breed specific classes at shows

Horses/ponies will be judged against a breed standard which is usually set by the relevant breed society(s) - this is usually a combination of conformation, movement & sometimes temperament relevant to the original purpose of the breed.  E.g a Clydesdale should be built appropriately for pulling heavy weight - plows, carriages etc

Turnout in breed classes is generally "more natural" or the horse is to be turned out in their traditional attire depending on the breed and class. Plaiting is usually not mandatory for breed classes with the exception of thoroughbreds, standardbreds & some pony breeds. Breeds with naturally long manes such as Frisians, Welsh A, Shetland Ponies, Gypsy horses etc should be left unplaited. Youngstock & stallions for all breeds are usually shown unplaited. Some breeds are not permitted to be shown with a false tail either.

If you have both open classes & breed classes on the same day then you may have to show in your breed class plaited. Stallions & Colts need wear green discs on each side of their halter/bridle at all times & are not eligible to compete outside of stallion or colt specific classes unless stated otherwise by the show.
